Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger has once again awarded a total of 37 projects in the funding program "Saarland zum Selbermachen". The funding volume was increased in advance by 50,000 euros to 150,000 euros.
Since 2013, the state government has been honoring nonprofit engagement and promoting local and regional projects with the funding program "Saarland zum Selbermachen" ("Saarland for Do-It-Yourself"). In May 2026, the 27th funding round took place. From 51 applications, the volunteer jury selected a total of 37 projects, which will now receive an overall amount of 67,370 euros to implement their plans. Due to high demand, the annual budget was already increased in advance from 100,000 euros to 150,000 euros. Minister President Rehlinger thanked all participants for their commitment to the common good: “The people of Saarland want to improve life in their cities and municipalities. We honor their efforts with every round of 'Saarland zum Selbermachen.' We provide financial support to citizens and clubs so they can implement good ideas and projects quickly and without bureaucracy. The whole country benefits from this because they promote youth work, integration, sports, and culture. They help maintain or enhance places of encounter. This deserves respect and recognition, but also our support. I wish all participants much success with their projects and sincerely thank them for their dedication to the common good.”
The initiative "Saarland for Do-It-Yourself" was launched in the summer of 2013. It honors and enables special voluntary achievements. So far, 566 projects aimed at the common good have been funded with 1,079,648 euros, including cultural, leisure, and learning projects for children, sports, integration and refugee assistance, monument preservation, and restorations. Citizens, associations, initiatives, and groups who want to tackle and solve specific challenges at the local and regional level can apply for funding for projects aimed at the common good throughout the year. The jury decides twice a year on the submitted applications. The next deadline is October 31, 2026.
