Heatwave: BARMER activates hotline
Saarbrücken, June 25, 2026 – In response to the current heatwave, BARMER has launched a medical hotline. Doctors from the BARMER Teledoctor answer questions about health issues related to heat and provide guidance on what to consider regarding fluid intake, sun protection, medication use, and sunburn. They can also assist with cooling tips or facility-specific questions, for example from daycares. “High temperatures can be quite dangerous, especially for children, elderly people, those with chronic illnesses, and individuals with circulatory problems. Older people in particular should ensure they drink enough fluids, as the sensation of thirst decreases with age,” says Dunja Kleis, State Managing Director of BARMER in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. The BARMER Teledoctor hotline is available daily from 6 a.m. to midnight at 089 480 595 84. The hotline is free of charge and open to everyone interested.
