From June 15 to 20, 2026, the "Special Olympics National Games 2026" took place in Saarland. Since the sports venues of the participants were located in close proximity to the train station and some program points were also held there, the Federal Police Inspectorate Saarbrücken contributed to the safety of the event, among other places, at Saarbrücken main train station. For this purpose, the prevention officer of the department, Chief Police Commissioner Eric Finkler, provided athletes and accompanying persons with important crime prevention tips to protect against pickpocketing. In addition, information was given about the dangers in rail traffic and the safe and correct behavior in this hazard area was explained. He was also available as a contact person for general police questions and assisted with orientation in the station area – true to the motto "Police – your friend and helper."
