Press release_School award of the Saarlouis district granted to particularly committed students
In good tradition, shortly before the start of the summer holidays, delegations from the district schools gathered at the Saarlouis Theater am Ring – to "celebrate young commitment," as District Administrator Patrik Lauer stated. Together with Minister of Education Christine Streichert-Clivot, the school authority honored graduating students who distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements in their educational journey. Additional guests from business, administration, and politics also participated in the now fourth awarding of the Saarlouis district school prize.
The nominees for the awardees were put forward by their respective school administrations. A jury consisting of Klaus Kessler (former Minister of Education and district council member), Bernd Schmitz (former principal of the Martin Luther King School Saarlouis), Monika Braun (district officer for education and construction), district school development planner Natalie Sadik, and district administrator Patrik Lauer, selected eight winners based on the submissions. All other participants received recognition awards.
The event was hosted by Christina Dollwet, a student at the Robert Schuman Gymnasium in Saarlouis, as well as district press spokeswoman Ulrike Paulmann. The musical accompaniment was provided by the District Youth Orchestra under the direction of Joachim Fontaine. A particularly emotional highlight of the award ceremony was undoubtedly a poetry slam performance presented by Athena Pourhadi, the school award winner and a student at the Geschwister Scholl Gymnasium Lebach.
District Administrator Lauer: “Whether social engagement, outstanding academic achievements, or the promotion of tolerance and inclusion – the commitment of the students gathered here does not end with merely fulfilling their school duties. They get involved, they help shape things, they take on responsibility. They are role models for their fellow students and for their friends. They are role models for the younger ones, their peers, and also for us older ones.”
“The school award of the Saarlouis district clearly shows that school is about much more than just good grades. It honors students who have contributed with special commitment, taken responsibility, and used their talents for others. Whether in the social, cultural, or sporting fields, for sustainability, democracy, or in the STEM area – the awardees demonstrate how diverse engagement can be. They shape the community spirit at their schools and make an important contribution to their community,” said Education Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot.
This year's school award of the district of Saarlouis went to the following students:
Thanks to the generous support of many donors, the school prize winners were able to look forward to attractive prize money: large groups were collectively awarded 500 euros, smaller groups 175 euros, and individually recognized students received 100 euros each. Additionally, from the Saarlouis district, they and all other recipients of recognition awards, who were also pleased with small cash prizes, received a certificate as well as a sustainable muesli bowl.
