State Action Plan Against Racism and Anti-Semitism
adopted
At the cabinet meeting today, the state action plan against racism and anti-Semitism was adopted. With this, Saarland is sending a clear signal for an open, democratic, and diverse society.
The state action plan is part of the announced package of measures against racism and anti-Semitism. For the first time, it combines various cross-departmental measures with the aim of effectively combating racist, anti-Semitic, anti-Romani, and anti-Muslim attitudes and actions, as well as better protecting and supporting those affected.
Social Minister Magnus Jung explains: "Racism and anti-Semitism not only endanger the safety and dignity of those affected, but also attack the fundamental values of our democratic coexistence. With the state action plan, we create a strong and binding foundation to resolutely counteract hostility towards people. We rely on prevention, protection, education, and a broad societal alliance. Our goal is a Saarland in which diversity is understood as a strength and all people can live free from fear and discrimination."
“The state action plan is an important signal and at the same time a foundation for effectively and sustainably combating racism and antisemitism. Especially in view of the current social challenges, it is essential to protect human dignity, strengthen prevention, reliably support those affected, and promote democratic attitudes in all areas of our society,” emphasize the Saarland Commissioner against Racism Jörn Didas and the Commissioner for Jewish Life in Saarland and against Antisemitism Prof. Dr. Roland Rixecker.
The measures of the action plan include, among others, the expansion of the low-threshold reporting and counseling platform
meldestelle.saarland,
the strengthening of support and counseling services for victims of racist discrimination, as well as the introduction of a state-run follow-up project to the program "Respect Coaches / Anti-Bullying Professionals," in order to further expand prevention work and the promotion of democracy
especially among young people.
