press information District Town Homburg Disputed content from tax returns of previous years is currently causing a legal dispute between the responsible tax authorities and the district town of Homburg: In a letter dated June 10, 2026, the Saarbrücken II tax office informed that a tax criminal investigation has now been initiated in this matter due to suspicion of tax evasion. The allegations concern legally complex internal administrative tax matters that were not directly handled or are being handled by Mayor Michael Forster. Nevertheless, the letter – as required by law – is addressed to him personally as well as in his capacity as the legal representative of the city of Homburg, as the outstanding questions relate to his overall responsibility as head of the city administration. Forster states: “After becoming aware of the procedure upon my return from vacation, I immediately initiated all necessary internal administrative steps to ensure a solid and transparent review in every respect.” As part of his active and proactive problem-solving, the mayor has already presented the current status to the leaders of the parties represented in the city council at the beginning of the week. Although he personally and the city of Homburg currently have no further knowledge of the precise content of the allegations, Forster announced that “external consultants will also be brought in to ensure a neutral perspective.” The Homburg city council is expected to make a corresponding decision at the meeting on Thursday (June 25, 5:30 p.m.) this week. In view of tax confidentiality and the protection of all employees, no further information can be provided to the public at this time. However, Forster emphasizes clearly: “The responsible tax authorities can trust that the city administration will cooperate fully in clarifying the now documented matters and in answering all questions. All investigations will be accompanied by us constructively and openly.”
