The shareholders' meeting of the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security resolved on June 22, 2026, to initiate an external and independent review of the publicly raised allegations concerning the international involvement of research activities.
The Mayor of the city of St. Ingbert, Dr. Ulli Meyer, calls for a swift clarification: “The employees of CISPA need clarity about the current situation and the next steps. At the same time, it is important for the Saarland science location and St. Ingbert that the allegations are investigated quickly, independently, and thoroughly. Michael Backes is a world-renowned scientist. He is a Saarlander, a citizen of St. Ingbert, and the key driving force behind CISPA’s success. Without his commitment, CISPA would not have been established in Saarland. That is why a transparent and comprehensive clarification of the allegations in the media is so important now – in the interest of all parties involved and the entire Saarland location.”
The establishment of CISPA in St. Ingbert remains secured. Corresponding contracts ensure the new construction and the settlement.
