Nationwide Day of Action "Municipalities at the Limit": City of St. Ingbert Sets a Sign for Capable Municipalities
On Monday morning (June 22), the city of St. Ingbert participated in the nationwide action day "Municipalities at the Limit." Cities, towns, and districts are jointly raising awareness of the increasingly strained financial situation of municipalities and are calling for adequate funding of their diverse tasks by the federal and state governments.
In St. Ingbert, the action day was also visibly implemented: Several municipal buildings and facilities were marked with black and yellow barrier tape as well as posters to draw attention to the current situation. Corresponding notices were posted on the Ingo buses, and the action day was accompanied through the city’s communication channels. The campaign was also highlighted on construction fence banners throughout the city area.
In the morning, around 150 employees of the city administration gathered for a staff meeting in front of the town hall. Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer had invited the workforce to come together to make a statement about the ability of municipalities to act.
"Despite the symbolic actions, there were no restrictions on municipal services," emphasized Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer.
„Municipalities are the backbone of government action at the local level. It is two minutes to twelve! If the situation remains tense, the lights will literally go out and we will no longer be able to offer services, for example, for clubs or in sports. With today's action, we want to make it clear that we have reached the limit of our capacity,“ explained Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer during the assembly.
