Ensuring a reliable supply of electricity is one of the central tasks of public services. However, the demands on energy supply are changing rapidly. The expansion of renewable energies, the increasing electromobility, the intensified use of heat pumps, and the growing number of customers who generate their own electricity and feed it into the grid are making electricity supply more complex than ever.
To ensure a reliable energy supply in the future, Stadtwerke Bliestal, together with expert planners, conducted an extensive scenario analysis. This examined how electricity demand might develop in the coming years. The results clearly show: the power demand in the network area of Stadtwerke could more than triple by 2045.
This development not only presents new challenges for local power grids. The upstream grids that transport energy to Blieskastel also need to be expanded to meet these requirements. Together with Pfalzwerke, Stadtwerke Bliestal is already working today on the necessary measures to enable the energy supply of the future.

However, the required digitalization also increases the demands on grid security. For this reason, the Biosphere Stadtwerke Bliestal | St. Ingbert continuously invest in protecting their technical systems. The grid technology has been certified for years according to the requirements of an information security management system (ISMS). Now, additional requirements from the European Network and Information Security Directive (NIS2) are being consistently implemented.
In addition to digital challenges, classic risks to grid operation remain. Traffic accidents, storms, or damage to supply lines caused by construction work can impair the supply. In order to remain operational even in such situations, Stadtwerke Bliestal has additional reserve feed-ins alongside the main handover point from Pfalzwerke. These significantly increase supply security and make it possible to maintain power supply as long as possible even during major technical disturbances.

“These investments are a strong signal for supply security and the future viability of our region,” emphasize mayors Bernd Hertzler and Michael Clivot as chairman and deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Bliestal.
On Public Services Day it becomes clear: a secure, sustainable, and future-proof energy supply does not happen by itself. It requires foresight, investments, and committed people on site. Stadtwerke Bliestal make an important contribution to this day after day – today and in the future.
Analysis shows possible triple increase in demand by 2045 in the network area
