The FDP welcomes the announcement of a German-French Center for Artificial Intelligence. The cooperation between Germany and France is an important step to strengthen Europe's technological sovereignty in one of the decisive fields of the future.
"Artificial intelligence is not only a future technology, but a matter of competitiveness, security, and Europe's ability to act," explains FDP state chairwoman Angelika Hießerich-Peter. "If Europe wants to preserve its digital sovereignty, we must join forces. France has set important impulses in recent years with AI investments and strategic orientation. Saarland can benefit from this."
From the FDP's perspective, it is about reducing critical dependencies on non-European technology providers, alongside research and innovation.
“Europe must not become permanently dependent on American or Chinese providers for key technologies. Especially in the area of security and analysis systems, we must consistently develop and deploy European alternatives,” said the state chairwoman.
Saarland must seize the opportunity and integrate AI into the education sector at an early stage. "Students must learn early on to use AI competently, critically, and creatively. AI competence will become a basic prerequisite for professional and social success." With institutions such as the DFKI or Saarland University, Saarland already has excellent conditions to take on a leading role in Europe.
Saarland can become a European model location for AI. We must now act decisively to achieve this. The FDP will give this topic a central place in its program and advocate for an AI strategy that combines innovation, education, security, and European sovereignty.
