In the early morning of June 17, 2026, officers from the Financial Control of Illegal Employment (FKS) of the Saarbrücken Main Customs Office, together with the Gendarmerie Nationale, conducted several searches in the Saarland and neighboring France.
The background of the cross-border measures are investigations by the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office on suspicion of withholding and embezzling wages in the care sector. The accused are suspected of primarily placing Eastern European caregivers for home care, whereby the actual daily working hours are said to have significantly exceeded the contractually agreed and reported hours for social security.
The measures were carried out jointly with forces from the Gendarmerie Nationale, Brigade territoriale autonome (BTA) Behren-lès-Forbach. During the searches, a 46-year-old Romanian national and a 59-year-old German national were arrested based on previously issued European arrest warrants.
The accused are currently being presented to the competent French judicial authorities. Further judicial decisions as well as any subsequent extradition proceedings are under the jurisdiction of the French authorities and the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office.
During the searches, extensive evidence was secured, which is now being evaluated. A total of 52 personnel from the National Gendarmerie, the Saarbrücken Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Financial Control for Undeclared Work of the Saarbrücken Main Customs Office were involved in the operations.
The investigations are ongoing; for investigation tactical reasons, no further information about the proceedings can be provided at this time.
