Mettlach, June 19, 2026 Media Release 016/2026 5th Saar-Mosel Cup promises thrilling local derbies at the Weiten Kolmerswaldstadion The Saar-Mosel Cup is entering its fifth edition this year: On Sunday, July 5, 2026, the football teams from the municipalities of Mettlach and Perl will compete for the challenge trophy donated by the mayors of Perl and Mettlach. The venue for this year’s tournament is the Kolmerswaldstadion in Weiten. The intermunicipal football tournament was established in 2021 by Mayor Daniel Kiefer and his counterpart from Perl, Ralf Uhlenbruch, to strengthen the sporting and community exchange between the two neighboring municipalities. Meanwhile, the event has become a fixed tradition in the local sports calendar. The tournament for the active teams starts at 11:00 a.m. and is played in a round-robin format. Each match lasts 1 x 25 minutes. A total of five teams and combined teams from both municipalities will compete against each other: SG Leuktal SG Moseltal SCV Orscholz VfB Tünsdorf SG Mettlach-Merzig The official award ceremony for the active teams will take place around 4:30 p.m. Following the main tournament, the Old Boys (AH) match will take place at 5:00 p.m. Here, the traditional teams of AH SG Moseltal and AH VfB Tünsdorf face off in a match lasting 2 x 30 minutes. The AH award ceremony will be held immediately after the match. The organizing municipalities of Mettlach and Perl as well as the hosting SG Leuktal cordially invite all citizens and sports enthusiasts to this football afternoon. Catering for spectators at the Kolmerswaldstadion is well provided for. Admission is free.
