Important reinforcement for our schools: 169 prospective teachers receive their appointment certificates for the preparatory service
On August 1st, 169 prospective teachers in Saarland will begin their preparatory service. Minister of Education Christine Streichert-Clivot presented them today with their appointment certificates for the start of the second phase of their teacher training or for lateral entry into the teaching profession.
Minister of Education Christine Streichert-Clivot: “Every child deserves to have people by their side who believe in them, nurture their strengths, and encourage them to find their own path. This is exactly what teachers do every day. They are educators, role models, companions on the journey, encouragers, listeners, and trusted individuals. They recognize talents, promote strengths, spark curiosity, and support children and young people in discovering their own way. They impart values, provide guidance, build community, and help young people step confidently and responsibly into the future.”
That 169 people have chosen this profession is therefore a wonderful and strong signal for our schools and for the children and young people in Saarland. They invest their time, their knowledge, and their passion in the next generation. They deserve great respect and recognition for this. I look forward to accompanying them on their way into the teaching service.”
Of the total 169 newly hired teachers, 138 have completed a teacher training degree. On August 1st, 35 trainee teachers with a teaching degree will begin their preparatory service at primary schools, 75 at comprehensive and grammar schools, 13 at special education schools, and 15 at vocational schools.
In addition, a total of 30 career changers will start at Saarland schools on August 1st: five at vocational schools, four at special needs schools, eleven at comprehensive schools, and ten at grammar schools – they are distributed across the subjects of visual arts, music, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and computer science. Furthermore, one person will begin an adaptation course at grammar schools in accordance with the EU Recognition Directive.
Compared to the hiring date at the beginning of the year, the numbers have steadily increased – from 156 to 169.
Minister Streichert-Clivot concluded: "Every new teacher is a gain for our schools and especially for the children and young people in Saarland. All the more, I am pleased that more and more people are choosing this special profession. I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to the lateral entrants who have found their way to our schools. With their experience, commitment, and external perspective, they enrich everyday school life and make a valuable contribution to our students."
