Farewell in Burbach: Pastor Dieter Winterhagen retires
Saarbrücken. After nearly three decades, Pastor Dieter Winterhagen is ending his service in Burbach and retiring – officially in August, but the farewell will take place before the summer holidays.
After studying theology at the Church University of Wuppertal, in Bonn and Tübingen, the native of Wuppertal completed his vicarage and auxiliary service in Solingen before taking up a special service position in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel. In 1997, Winterhagen moved to Saarland with his family. Initially still part of the pastoral team with Pastor Eva Pollmann, he took over the then Burbach parish alone after her retirement in 2010. For a time, alongside parish duties, he was also involved in clinical chaplaincy at the Rastpfuhl hospital, where he helped develop an ecumenical concept for pastoral training in the hospital. Good ecumenism in the district was always a special concern for him.
In retirement, the 65-year-old plans to dedicate himself to what he had to repeatedly put on hold during his service: his passion for technology and his wife. Their joint vacation is already planned.
The pastoral position in Burbach will not be reoccupied at the level of the church congregation. Instead, a new pastoral team is currently being formed, which will be jointly responsible for the Saarbrücken-West region.
Info
Pastor Dieter Winterhagen will be officially released from his duties in a service on Sunday, June 21, at 10 a.m. in the Matthäus Church Burbach (Noldplatz, 66115 Saarbrücken). Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to say goodbye to him personally during a reception in the adjacent Lutherhaus.
