Development of the commercial area "Hans-Wilhelmi-Straße" in Rohrbach successfully completed - the way is clear for new construction
The city of St. Ingbert has largely completed the development of the industrial area "Hans-Wilhelmi-Straße" - Industrial Area Rohrbach-South II. This paves the way for additional areas to be developed and built on.
The implementation of the project began in spring 2023. Initially, clearing and tree felling took place. This was followed by the surveying of the property and geotechnical investigations into the soil conditions. Experts examined the expansion area for possible unexploded ordnance contamination. At the same time, the city administration of St. Ingbert prepared the required development plan for the area.
In spring 2024, work began to prepare the site for construction. This included terracing the area, removing remaining tree stumps, and the demolition and proper disposal of existing garages and concrete surfaces. These tasks were completed by the end of 2024.
The subsequent civil engineering, sewer construction, and road construction works, including the laying of supply lines for gas, water, and electricity, began in spring 2025 and were completed in early 2026. As the final step, the delivery and installation of a transformer station will take place in autumn 2026.
The total costs of the project, including the land acquisition, amount to approximately 2 million euros.
The Saarland Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Digital Affairs, and Energy supports the expansion of the industrial area with a funding rate of 95 percent.
Mayor Ulli Meyer emphasizes the importance of the measure for the city:
“With the expansion of the industrial area ‘Hans-Wilhelmi-Straße,’ we are creating urgently needed space for our local economy. This strengthens the St. Ingbert location sustainably and secures as well as creates jobs in our region.”
Last week, the new road section was officially opened. City and local council members, representatives from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, as well as members of the GGE supervisory board attended the opening.
On the available open spaces, the development of a campus with 5000 sqm of office space is planned.
