Johannis Pharmacy celebrates 100th anniversary
A whole century dedicated to health: The Johannis Pharmacy on Obere Kaiserstraße celebrated its 100th anniversary. Numerous guests from medicine, politics, business, and the social life of the region took part in the anniversary celebration and jointly reflected on the long and eventful history of the traditional establishment.
From the only pharmacy in the region to a well-established institution
The pharmacy was founded in 1926 by Pharmacist Eugen Weis. At that time, it was the only pharmacy in the wider area between St. Ingbert and Homburg and played a central role in the medical care of the people in Rohrbach, Kirkel, Hassel, and the surrounding communities. Weis was known as an expert in herbs and also passed on his knowledge to the pharmaceutical trainees – including in a specially created medicinal plant garden behind the pharmacy.
Even in difficult times, the company proved reliable. In the post-war period, relief supplies such as milk powder were distributed from here, among other things. Also remembered is an extraordinary incident when a military truck loaded with red wine crashed into the pharmacy's shop window, and numerous Rohrbach residents then tried to catch the spilled wine with buckets and bowls.
Generational change in the family business
In 1989, pharmacist Monique Albrecht took over the business and significantly shaped the development of the Johannis Pharmacy for more than three decades. She made the establishment a staple in the town and supported many families across generations with health matters.
Since the beginning of 2023, her daughter Beatrice Reichert has been running the pharmacy. Both continue to work together in the family business to this day. "Taking over was not only a professional step for me but also the continuation of a family story and the values that have shaped this pharmacy for decades," Reichert said during the anniversary celebration.
Tradition meets modern healthcare
Johannis Pharmacy today combines personal, individual consultation with modern pharmaceutical services. These include, among others, medication analyses, prevention offers, and various health checks. Additionally, holistic health counseling is becoming increasingly important.
For the anniversary, a small pharmacy museum was also established. Historical equipment, documents, and exhibits provide insights into the development of the pharmacist profession as well as the history of the building.
Congratulations from the city
Among those offering congratulations were Mayor Nadine Backes, local head Martin Biedermann, and his deputy Carina Münzebrock. They presented a gift and particularly praised the family business’s long-standing commitment to healthcare provision and community life in Rohrbach.
With its 100th anniversary, the Johannis Pharmacy looks back on a century of company history – and at the same time on an equally long close connection with the people of the region.
