Season Kicked Off at Merzig Cultural Summer and the Talent Stage The summer in Merzig can begin. Last weekend, the Merzig Cultural Summer 2026 was inaugurated with a double event. On Saturday evening, it was officially opened with great music by the band “Heartland.” In the coming weeks, the Cultural Summer will offer a number of musical highlights. The “Small Arts Summer” with a small stage in the old town is also planned again, as well as the “Talent Stage” – a format that proved its worth last year. Already on Friday, within this framework, the school band “Junior High” from Losheim performed in the old town. With the band “Heartland,” the Cultural Summer officially returned to Merzig’s old town on Saturday. Together with Andrea Zimmer, managing director of the district cultural center “Villa Fuchs,” Mayor Marcus Hoffeld gave the starting signal for the popular series of events. The mayor is already looking forward to the colorful and varied program that “Villa Fuchs” has put together together with the district town of Merzig. Marcus Hoffeld thanked Villa Fuchs for the good cooperation, the restaurateurs, the sponsors, and the visitors who attend the event. Andrea Zimmer promised for the evening and the upcoming weeks: “We have reached for a somewhat higher shelf again with the artists.” Following the opening, “Heartland” impressed with modern country music from a repertoire ranging from energetic uptempo numbers to timeless ballads. The best-known face in the newly formed three-member lineup, which appeared for the first time in the Merzig-Wadern district, is certainly Eddie Gimler, who has thrilled audiences in Merzig on many evenings with his intense and unmistakable guitar skills – most recently with “Simply Unplugged” during the opening of the open-air season in mid-May. Alongside Gimler, the two sisters and singers Vicky and Laura Maas entertained the numerous guests in the packed old town with their powerful and authentic stage presence. The previous day, Friday, musical talents from Losheim had the chance to showcase their skills on the Talent Stage. The district cultural center “Villa Fuchs” and the district town of Merzig gave the school band “Junior High” from the Peter-Dewes-Community School Losheim am See the opportunity to play well-known hits by Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Green Day, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, as well as German-language songs by Die Toten Hosen and Die Ärzte, along with their own pieces. One of the strong voices was that of Linsay Rix, who gained nationwide recognition when she reached one of the semifinal rounds of the well-known TV format “The Voice Kids.” The further dates for the Merzig Cultural Summer 2026 are: Friday, June 19, 7 pm: Special Olympics event with “Alina & Tim,” a musical by the Rückhalt Foundation “Everything Is Possible” and “Herr Marie” Saturday, June 20, 7 pm: “Final Heat Band” Saturday, June 27, 8 pm: “Vulcano” Saturday, July 25, 8 pm: “Zuppelmusik” Saturday, August 8, 8 pm: “The Gambles” At the Merzig Small Arts Summer 2026 (in the old town in front of Lebenshilfe Merzig-Wadern) perform: Saturday, July 4, 8 pm: Wolfgang Prinz Saturday, August 22, 8 pm: Horst Friedrich The Talent Stage features: Friday, August 7, 7 pm: Musical ensemble of the Gymnasium am Stefansberg
