With a new special education regulation, Saarland is setting the course for modern special education support. The new regulation, approved today by the Council of Ministers, strengthens the individual support of children and young people with special educational needs, creates more flexibility in the special school system, and improves transitions within an inclusive education system.
Education Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot: "Every child has the right to the best possible education and the support they need for their individual path. Our special schools make an indispensable contribution to this. With the new special school regulation, we are creating modern and future-proof framework conditions that are oriented towards the needs of children and young people. We strengthen individual support, improve educational and participation opportunities, and create more flexibility for successful educational pathways. This ensures that children and young people can develop their strengths, build confidence in their own abilities, and confidently follow their own path."
The regulation responds to the changing requirements in special education support. The number of students at special schools has increased significantly in recent years. At the same time, complex and multidimensional support needs are on the rise.
