Once again, excellent reviews for
St. Wendeler Premium Hiking Trails
The two St. Wendel premium hiking trails Tiefenbachpfad and 5–Weiher–Tour were newly certified in the spring by the German Hiking Institute. This must be done at regular intervals of three years. The Tiefenbachpfad was able to maintain its excellent rating – 84 out of 100 possible experience points. The 5–Weiher–Tour improved by two points to now 78 experience points. These results reflect the continuous maintenance and further development of the hiking trails by the district town of St. Wendel. In preparation for the certifications, employees of the Environmental Office inspected the entire infrastructure along the trails. They recorded and documented facilities, signage, as well as the condition of trees and shrubs. The resulting measures were then implemented over several weeks by the Environmental Office’s field service team.
The Tiefenbach Trail, starting at Bosenberg, successfully maintained its excellent rating and may continue to bear the "Premium Hiking Trail" quality seal from the German Hiking Institute. The recertification report especially highlights the well-maintained and cared-for impression of the trail. Considering the challenges posed by bark beetle damage and changes in forest stands, this result represents a special achievement.
The 5-Pond Tour was able to improve its result. Here too, the German Hiking Institute confirmed that the premium hiking trail gives an impression of being well-maintained and cared for, and is in overall good condition. Particularly positive for both hiking trails was the consistently good signage, which greatly contributes to orientation and the hiking experience.
With their results, the Tiefenbachpfad and the 5-Weiher-Tour continue to hold the top two positions among the premium hiking trails in the district of St. Wendel. In the Saarland-wide ranking of a total of 64 certified trails, the Tiefenbachpfad achieves an excellent 7th place, while the 5-Weiher-Tour ranks 11th.
