Effective from the 1st, Daniel Kern was appointed volunteer nature warden for the nature reserve "Bei der Knorscheider Mühle" by the Ministry of the Environment in the press release dated June 16, 2026. He succeeds Wolfgang Kühn, who passed away unexpectedly in October 2025. Kern is the nature conservation officer of the city of Lebach and will support the full-time ranger Karl Hermann for an initial period of five years.
“Wolfgang Kühn has excellently cared for the nature reserve over the years. He was always passionate about the cause, and his loss leaves a great gap. We wish his successor Daniel Kern all the best in his new position and are pleased about his commitment to take responsibility on site and provide practical support,” says Minister Petra Berg.
In the nature reserve "Bei der Knorscheider Mühle" in Lebach, large sedge beds, tall herb communities, alder carrs, and oligotrophic wet meadows can be found, which must be protected from human interference. They provide a suitable habitat for many partly rare and endangered plant and animal species.
Since 2005, the Naturlandstiftung Saar (NLS) has been the sponsor of the Naturwacht Saarland. The Ministry for Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection has technical supervision and funds the Naturwacht.
