Saar Pass launches: Saarlanders can rediscover their federal state
Starting today, Saarlanders can rediscover their state with the new Saar Pass
The digital pass grants a one-time free access for twelve months to more than 100 leisure, cultural, and experiential offers in Saarland and partly beyond. The project is a central measure of the Saarland Tourism Strategy 2035 and aims to strengthen the population's awareness of tourism.
As part of the state press conference, Minister of Economic Affairs and Tourism Jürgen Barke, together with the Managing Director of the Saarland Tourism Board (TZS), Birgit Grauvogel, presented the new offer to journalists.
Tourism is an important driver for value creation, location development, and quality of life in Saarland. It creates opportunities, secures jobs, and strengthens the attractiveness of our region as a place to live, experience culture, and do business. With the Saar Pass, we give the people of Saarland the opportunity to rediscover their own state and at the same time actively support tourism development.
Minister of Economic Affairs Jürgen Barke
Tourism in Saarland continues to develop extremely positively. In 2025, a new record was reached with 3.35 million guest overnight stays. This represents an increase of 4.5 percent compared to the previous year and is significantly above the national average. The trend continued in the first quarter of 2026 as well: with around 680,000 overnight stays, an increase of nearly 8 percent compared to the same period last year was achieved.
Barke: "Our tourism strategy is effective. We have not only achieved our growth targets but exceeded them. We want to continue on this successful path. This also includes inspiring the people of Saarland more strongly for the diversity of our tourism offerings. Those who know and appreciate their Saarland become the best ambassadors for our region."
The Saar Pass is a component of the Saarland 2035 tourism strategy. In the area of action "Tourism Awareness," the goal was formulated to involve the local population more strongly in tourism development and to strengthen regional identity. The Saar Pass now implements this measure.
The digital pass provides access to numerous attractions, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte, the Schlossberg Caves in Homburg, the Freisen Wildlife Park, guided adventure tours in Saarland cities, as well as various leisure activities such as adventure golf, water parks, and stand-up paddling.
The Saar Pass is more than just a ticket – it is an invitation to discover your own federal state as a holiday destination and excursion spot. Whether alone, with family, or with friends: with the pass, people from Saarland become explorers of their homeland and ambassadors of their region.
