Architecture Day 2026 in Saarland: St. Ingbert opens its doors in two buildings
Since 1995, the so-called "Day of Architecture" has been held annually in Saarland on the last weekend of June. Architecture enthusiasts and prospective builders are warmly invited to discover current and exemplary construction projects from the region during this weekend. During visits and guided tours on site, visitors have the opportunity to talk with the architects and clients, ask questions, make contacts, and gather inspiration for their own building projects.
In St. Ingbert, the new FGTS at the Südschule and the music school in the former prison can be visited on Saturday, June 27, 2026, each between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
FGTS at the Südschule
New building, St. Fidelis Street 9, 66386 St. Ingbert
The new building of the voluntary all-day school was constructed on the premises of the Südschule as a wood-hybrid structure and provides space for 280 children. The two-story building with a flat roof and an attached shed roof offers large, bright care areas and is designed as a room cluster with minimal pure traffic areas. In addition to variously sized care rooms that can partly be flexibly partitioned, the building houses a spacious cafeteria with its own kitchen and direct access to the newly designed outdoor area.
Music school in the former prison
Conversion, Alte Bahnhofstr. 11, 66386 St. Ingbert
The former prison, which is a listed building, was repurposed as the municipal music school. During the comprehensive renovation of the building, barrier-free access, fire protection, as well as soundproofing and room acoustics requirements were the main focus. The original structure of the building was largely preserved or restored. A transparent three-story extension serves as the new main entrance and a representative landmark at the entrance to the music school and the adjacent cotton spinning mill area.
