Frank Wagner, Secretary General of the CDU Saar, on Ulrich Commerçon's statements regarding the vote in the Mettlach municipal council: "Mr. Commerçon should be very careful with his hypocritical and exaggerated accusations. Anyone who publicly accuses the CDU in Mettlach of an alliance with the AfD, although the CDU holds an absolute majority in the municipal council there and is not at all dependent on the AfD for majorities, is acting deliberately distortive and dishonest.
Commerçon artificially constructs an AfD narrative because it suits his party tactics. And it is unfair to the volunteers on site who have dealt with a factual issue in the municipal council.
Particularly remarkable in this context is the double standard of the Saar-SPD. Mr. Commerçon should not point fingers at others, especially unjustifiably, before he has cleaned up in his own backyard: In Gersheim, hall usage fees for young people were introduced at the end of last year, even though there were none before. This was decided with votes from the SPD, the Greens – and the AfD!
Mind you: The motion only received a majority because the AfD joined forces with the SPD and the Greens. An alliance between the SPD and the AfD? This meant that the SPD violated an explicit resolution of the SPD state party conference.
The CDU in Mettlach does not need the AfD. However, the SPD in Gersheim apparently had no problem introducing fees for young people together with the Greens and the AfD. That is the difference between reality and red outrage theatrics.
Mr. Commerçon abuses a poem about war, suffering, and children's eyes to politically charge a local dispute over the name of a daycare center. That is not statesmanlike. That is cheap.
The CDU Saar stands for pragmatic local politics, genuine participation, and respect for elected councils. What we do not accept is this moral self-exaltation of the SPD, while it itself does exactly what it unfairly accuses others of doing at the local level.
What does Ms. Rehlinger, as SPD state chairwoman, actually say about the fact that the SPD in Gersheim is violating clear resolutions of the SPD Saar regarding cooperation with the AfD?
