Simply slow down for a moment…
Donkey Seasonal Hike - sustainably discover the southern Bliesgau
One-day summer tour on June 13
Experience the special features of the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve in a different way: slower and more consciously, sometimes stopping just to marvel at how the landscape "speaks." Hiking with donkeys means embracing the friendly, curious, and loyal nature of these animals. They set the pace, the rhythm, and sometimes a stop when they notice something special. The donkeys may be ridden by children and led by adults. The motto of every donkey hike is: "Slow down and enjoy the landscape."
The individual hiking tours with Axel Kammerer and the donkeys from Hof Sonnenbogen are oriented around the qualities of the seasons. What is special about the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve is, on the one hand, the relatively high population density, and on the other, the development of many and very diverse habitats on a relatively small area through land use – for example, floodplain forests with beavers are not far from orchard meadows, from dry grasslands with orchids, and old quarries where the eagle owl breeds. The donkey hikes aim to make the networking of these ecologically very valuable and unique biotopes in connection with "civilization" tangible. The role of humans in the cultural landscape is the central theme.
The summer hike starts on June 13th, during which guests will learn a lot about the gentle animals as well as the flora and fauna of the Bliesgau. The hike with the donkeys follows the theme "Grains and Meadows – Summer Hike with the Donkeys" and begins at Hof Sonnenbogen in Blieskastel-Wolfersheim.
On the way, guests can experience the "sleeping landscape" of the Bliesgau, the species-rich and colorful meadows, and the dark, cool forests. The subsequent delicious vegetarian delicacies at the donkey stable on the Sonnenbogen farm will also be provided this year by Gabi Steinmann from Café saisonal in Herbitzheim. She has been recognized for many years as a partner business of the Bliesgau Biosphere and is known for her homemade dishes and refreshing drinks.
Duration of the donkey hike: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. accompanied by the certified nature and landscape guide Axel Kammerer. Price: 49 euros per adult and 34 euros per child, as well as 124 euros for a family of two adults and 1 child (additional tiered prices available upon request).
Additional dates for the donkey hikes are: September 12 and December 12
