Good day,

Together for Species Protection: Fourth Graders Build Nesting Aids for Biodiversity Day
On the occasion of International Biodiversity Day, which takes place every year on May 22nd, a special participatory event was held at the Südschule St. Ingbert. The day of action, initiated by the United Nations, aims to raise awareness of the importance of protecting global animal and plant diversity.
As part of this initiative, 20 fourth-grade students built nesting aids for native bird species together. The event was organized in cooperation between the sustainability officer of the city of St. Ingbert, Claus Günther, the NABU St. Ingbert, and the city of St. Ingbert.
The manufactured nesting boxes have an entrance hole with a diameter of 32 millimeters, providing ideal breeding conditions for great tits and blue tits. As a special detail, Claus Günther used a laser to engrave the “I Love IGB” logo on the nesting aids. This way, the nesting boxes combine practical benefits for species protection with a special connection to the city of St. Ingbert.
“After breeding is before breeding,” emphasized Barbara Böhme from NABU St. Ingbert, referring to the importance of providing suitable nesting opportunities early on. The location opposite the Fidelis meadow is particularly suitable for the installation of nesting aids. The natural surroundings with their diverse food supply create ideal conditions for great tits and blue tits and support them in successfully raising their offspring.
Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer and local mayor Irene Kaiser were also enthusiastic about the campaign. Both praised the commitment of the students as well as the successful collaboration among all parties involved. Projects like this not only make a valuable contribution to nature and species conservation, but also convey to young people in a practical way the importance of sustainability and the protection of native species.
With great enthusiasm and craftsmanship, the children built the nesting aids, thereby making an active contribution to promoting biodiversity in St. Ingbert.
