Good day,
Attached is a press release from the city of St. Ingbert with a request for re-publication. There are still places available.
Adult Education Center Lecture: Climate Adaptation and Heat Protection on Site - A Virtual Walk Through the City and Health Impacts of Climate Change
On Wednesday, June 3rd, at 6 p.m., the VHS St. Ingbert invites you to the lecture "Climate Adaptation and Heat Protection on Site - A Virtual Walk Through the City and the Health Effects of Climate Change" led by Climate Adaptation Manager Anne-Lorraine Ring and General Practitioner Dr. Andrea Oest.
How can a city specifically prepare for the effects of climate change – and which measures are truly effective against heat?
In the presentation "Virtual Climate Walk," Anne-Lorraine Ring, former climate adaptation manager of the city of Zweibrücken, presents adaptation measures from Zweibrücken using twelve exemplary "climate stations" that can serve as inspiration for other municipalities. These include, among others, green roofs and facades, tree plantings, drinking water fountains, permeable pavements, as well as other elements of heat-adapted urban design. Local examples from St. Ingbert are addressed and contextualized. Using thermal images from the city center taken on a hot summer day, it is vividly demonstrated how different surfaces and greenery can significantly affect temperatures in the urban area.
Another focus of the evening is on the health impacts of climate change. On the occasion of the National Heat Action Day 2026, Dr. Andrea Oest, a general practitioner from Homburg, highlights the issue of heat as the greatest climate change-related health risk for humans. She points out which population groups are particularly affected and what preventive measures can look like.
Following the two lectures, the speakers will be available for a discussion together with representatives of the city. Claus Günther, the sustainability officer, and Christian Fettig, the plant manager of the wastewater treatment plant, will be present on site on behalf of the city.
The lecture will take place at Rohrbacher Mühle, Mühlstraße 36, and is free of charge.
