Good day,
Attached are press releases from the city of St. Ingbert with a request for publication.
Events of the VHS Sustainability Program
The following events of the VHS sustainability program are supported by the Foundation for Culture and Environment of the Kreissparkasse Saarpfalz.
Lecture: Climate adaptation and heat protection on site - A virtual walk through the city and the health impacts of climate change
On Wednesday, June 3rd, at 6 p.m., the VHS St. Ingbert invites you to the lecture "Climate Adaptation and Heat Protection on Site - A Virtual Walk through the City and Health Effects of Climate Change" led by Climate Adaptation Manager Anne-Lorraine Ring and General Practitioner Dr. Andrea Oest.
How can a city specifically prepare for the consequences of climate change – and which measures actually work against heat?
In the lecture "Virtual Climate Walk," Anne-Lorraine Ring, former climate adaptation manager of the city of Zweibrücken, presents adaptation measures from Zweibrücken using twelve exemplary "climate stations," which can serve as inspiration for other municipalities. These include, among others, green roofs and facades, tree plantings, drinking water fountains, permeable pavements, as well as other elements of heat-adapted urban design. Local examples from St. Ingbert are highlighted and contextualized. Using thermal images from the city center, taken on a hot summer day, it is clearly demonstrated how different surfaces and greenery can significantly affect temperatures in the urban area.
Another focus of the evening is on the health impacts of climate change. On the occasion of the national Heat Action Day 2026, Dr. Andrea Oest, a general practitioner from Homburg, sheds light on heat as the greatest climate change-related health risk for humans. She highlights which population groups are particularly affected and how preventive measures can be taken.
Following the two lectures, the speakers will be available for a discussion together with representatives of the city. Claus Günther, the city's sustainability officer, and Christian Fettig, plant manager of the wastewater operation, will be present on site.
The lecture takes place at the Rohrbacher Mühle, Mühlstraße 36, and is free of charge.

Lecture: Green Transformation of Crude Steel Production in Saarland – An Update
On Wednesday, June 10th, at 6 p.m., the VHS St. Ingbert invites you to the lecture "Green Transformation of Raw Steel Production in Saarland – An Update"
led by Daniel Krech, Head of Raw Material Procurement (RoGeSa).
Daniel Krech explains in his lecture where the journey is headed and what will happen with the more than four billion in subsidies provided by the federal and state governments for the future of steel production in the Saar region. The history of our region is closely linked to steel production and processing. For 200 years, coal was the foundation for the economic upswing and prosperity of our region. Due to climate change, we must change course. Steel production requires not only an immense amount of energy to enable the melting process at extremely high temperatures but also a chemical substrate for the reduction of iron oxide. Hydrogen seems ideal for this purpose.
The lecture will take place at the Rohrbacher Mühle, Mühlstraße 36, and is free of charge.

Adult Education Center Workshop: The Forest as a Food Source: Making Elderflower, Dandelion, and Spruce Needle Syrup Yourself
On Wednesday, June 24th, at 5 p.m., the VHS St. Ingbert invites you to the workshop "The Forest as a Food Source: Making Elderflower, Dandelion, and Spruce Needle Syrup Yourself" led by Dr. Helmut Wolf.
This event demonstrates how to make elderflower, dandelion, and spruce needle syrup as well as elderflower sparkling wine yourself. Flowers, needles, and shoots from native wild shrubs and trees are used.
The workshop takes place at the Rohrbacher Mühle, Mühlstraße 36, and is free of charge.
