Good day,
Attached you will find a press release from the city of St. Ingbert with a request for publication.
Experience STEM and discover technology: Kindergarten at Stiefel visiting the FESTO Learning Center
What does FESTO do? How does a gyroscope get its shape? And what can you do with air? The kindergarten starters from the municipal daycare center at Stiefel investigated these and many other questions during an exciting morning at the FESTO Learning Center.
During their visit, the "older children" of the daycare were allowed to look behind the scenes and discover how exciting science and technology can be.
First, they learned a bit about the history of FESTO and what is actually done there. Then they experienced firsthand how important the element of air is in industry. The children discovered the immense power of air up close: With just the strength of their step, they inflated balloons and used a special air piping system to extend a cylinder.
The modern manufacturing machines caused particular amazement. While the 3D printer created precise shapes, the children learned at the centrifugal press how colorful plastic beads are transformed into solid objects – a process aptly compared to melting chocolate.
A real highlight was the encounter with robotics. In the game "Rock, Paper, Scissors," the children competed against a robotic arm. They proved to be attentive observers and, with a wink, critically questioned whether the machine might be cheating a little in its moves.
The excursion demonstrated how complex topics can be conveyed in an accessible and child-friendly way. The daycare center am Stiefel sincerely thanks Mrs. Bartel, Mr. Kiefer, and the entire FESTO Learning Center team for the great tour and the time they took to answer the little researchers' questions. A day that made technology tangible for the children in every sense of the word.
