The German Newspaper Museum is dedicating a major exhibition to comic artist Bernd Kissel
The German Newspaper Museum in Wadgassen will present the exhibition "Image Worlds – World Images. Bernd Kissel" from May 17, 2026, to January 3, 2027, and will dedicate a comprehensive museum show to one of the most well-known Saarland comic artists for the first time. The exhibition is created in cooperation with the municipality of Wadgassen and in close collaboration with the artist himself.
A broad cross-section of Bernd Kissel's versatile work is shown – from early works to well-known comic series and current projects. The focus is on the artist's original drawings, which impressively showcase the range of his drawing skills and creative visual worlds.
Bernd Kissel, born in 1978, comes from Berus. After his training at the Lycée Technique des Arts et Métiers in Luxembourg, he worked for several years at the Luxembourg studio 352, designing backgrounds for animated series and films before starting his career as a comic artist in 2007. Kissel first became known through the comic series Saar-Legenden, which appeared in the Saarbrücker Zeitung between 2007 and 2009. This was followed by numerous other publications, including the Saarland Album, collaboration with Flix on Münchhausen – The Truth About Lying, as well as more recently the highly successful cooperations with Marc-Uwe Kling, including the Känguru comics, Spurenfinder, and most recently Elon & Jeff on Mars.
The exhibition is complemented by an interactive comic workshop where visitors can get creative themselves. Basics of comic drawing are taught there, and creating small comic works is made possible. The program is aimed equally at children, teenagers, and adults. Special educational programs are also offered for school classes.
Additional accompanying events are planned for the duration of the exhibition!
Opening day on May 17, 2026
The exhibition will be opened on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Already on the opening day, visitors can expect a varied program revolving around art, comics, and creativity. At the exhibition opening, there will be an artist talk with Bernd Kissel and Patrik Feltes, providing insights into the artist's work, methods, and development. Furthermore, the museum invites you to additional program items and encounters as part of the exhibition opening.
The exhibition can be visited until early January 2027. Admission is 5 euros, reduced 3 euros; children and young people up to 18 years have free entry. On every first Sunday of the month, admission is free, and on these days, a free public tour takes place at 2 pm.
