Fiber optic expansion in Völklingen continues: OXG plans expansion in additional districts
The expansion of fiber optic in Völklingen continues: After some districts were already supplied with fiber optic by another company in recent years, OXG Glasfaser GmbH now plans the further expansion of the digital infrastructure in the city area.
According to current plans, around 6,000 households in the districts of Stadtmitte and Wehrden are to be connected to a modern fiber optic network. The project is currently in the preparation phase.
Important for owners:
The expansion by OXG takes place independently of signing an internet contract. This means: there are no costs for the fiber optic connection itself, and there is no obligation to immediately choose a new tariff or provider. Existing contracts can continue to be used.
The only requirement for the connection is the consent of the respective owners to allow the fiber optic cable to be laid up to the building. Only at a later time can a suitable internet provider be chosen – voluntarily. Availability at the respective address can be checked online and the consent can be given digitally at www.oxg.de/zustimmung.
The network planned by OXG is based on the so-called "open-access" principle. This means that multiple providers can offer their services via the same network. This ensures that the choice of internet provider remains free and flexible.
With the further expansion, an important step is being taken for the digital future of the city. High-performance internet connections are becoming increasingly crucial – both for private households and for economic development.
Mayor Stephan Tautz: "I am pleased that the expansion of fiber-optic networks in Völklingen is progressing further. A high-performance digital infrastructure is a crucial location factor today – for our citizens as well as for our businesses. The expansion of fiber optics lays the foundation for a modern, future-proof city and sustainably strengthens our quality of life. Therefore, as a city, we continue to actively ensure that, step by step, all districts benefit from this development."
Stefan Rüter, CEO of OXG: "Everyone is talking about fiber optic – and for good reasons. A fiber optic connection is not only powerful and stable, but it also connects people across generations. Residents in Völklingen can now secure their free connection and thereby increase the value of their property. All we need is the consent of the owners – a paid internet plan does not have to be booked immediately."
The city administration welcomes the commitment to expanding the infrastructure and is in communication with the company. The goal remains to provide all citizens with access to modern fiber optic technology.
