Enjoyable hike to the Celts & Romans.
Boundless around the European Culture Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim
Following the motto carpe diem – seize the day – this easy, approximately 10 km long day hike on Saturday, May 23rd, traces the footsteps of the Celts and Romans in the Bliesgau region around the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim. The chosen route through this unique cultural landscape of the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve illustrates to the participants why the Celts and Romans settled here and how the landscape was shaped by them. The group hikes over various viewpoints through a wild romantic forest ravine as well as along a splendid ridge and also learns something about Roman roads in antiquity. The first stage, which can be somewhat challenging due to a mountain ascent, ends near the cozy Jungholzhütte Bebelsheim located in the forest.
The next stage, back to the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim, leads through refreshing forest passages to the excavations of the European Cultural Park.
During the subsequent visit to the European Culture Park, the hiking group gets to know the grave of the Celtic princess of Reinheim, a Roman villa, and the thermal baths of the vicus, the Roman settlement.
The visit to the tavern in the cultural park with a delicious Roman three-course meal rounds off the Gallo-Roman day.
The group is accompanied by the guide Bartlin Schöpflin, who is a state-certified Tyrolean mountain hiking guide, holds a master's degree in Classical Archaeology, and is passionate about culinary(!) hiking in historically significant cultural landscapes.
The price for the complete tour including tasting is 46 euros per person. The tour starts at 9 a.m. at the Info Center of the Culture Park in Reinheim and ends around 4:30 p.m.
If participants wish to arrive by bus, the Biosphere Bus 501 is recommended, which stops directly at the Cultural Park in Reinheim.
