Frank Wagner, Secretary General of the CDU Saar, on the re-election of Schaufert to the NVG works council:
"The results of the works council election at NVG show above all one thing: the red network has not been dismantled, it continues. The election of Mr. Schaufert shows that the system with SPD members at all NVG control points still works. Red network in its purest form.
That a central figure of the scandal, Mr. Schaufert, is re-elected to the works council despite the serious accusations, despite dismissal, and despite ongoing criminal proceedings, is highly concerning and raises significant questions. Equally concerning is his continued refusal to finally accept comprehensive consequences. Schaufert remains the SPD local head in Neunkirchen, so he can continue to act as he pleases. When individuals at the center of such a scandal can continue without obvious consequences, it shows that nothing has changed in the structures. This is a catastrophic signal to the outside world. What does the SPD state chairwoman Rehlinger say about all this? Where is she in all this? It is a sign of lack of responsibility and leadership weakness to continue to dismiss the whole issue as a Neunkirchen problem. The scandal has long had larger dimensions. People expect clarification and clear consequences, not relativizations. As long as these are lacking, it means: The red cronyism of the SPD continues.
