In September, October, and November, the city of Völklingen each offered a cinema screening for seniors. The interest was high, with many citizens taking advantage of the free offer. The screenings took place at the Thalia Lichtspiele in Bous. The bus transfer was also free and ran from the New City Hall in Völklingen to the cinema and back, allowing seniors without their own vehicle to participate comfortably. With this offer, the city aimed to provide older people with a shared leisure experience. The focus was not only on the films but also on encounters, exchange, and community, which played an important role. The Saarbrücken Regional Association financed the event from the area of social participation for seniors. The city of Völklingen was responsible for organizing and implementing the event series. Feedback from participants was very positive; many appreciated the uncomplicated participation, and the joint cinema visit and organized transfer were particularly highlighted positively. The Völklingen Senior Cinema is part of the city's senior work, which includes various offers for older citizens. The goal is to enable participation and promote social contacts. Especially low-threshold offers can have a great impact in everyday life as they create encounters and strengthen togetherness. The city of Völklingen therefore evaluates the event series as a complete success. The high demand shows that such offers are well received. At the same time, it makes clear how important local and easily accessible leisure activities are for seniors.
