Rolf Sachsse, who himself is a trained photographer and has completed a doctorate on a topic in the history of photography, speaks about: "Photography as a Profession and Calling, 1964 – 2024." He traces the developments of professional photography since the 1960s, analyzes the boom triggered by the film "Blow Up," and finally provocatively asks whether photography as a profession still exists at all – or only as a calling.
Rolf Sachsse was a professor of design history and design theory at the Saar College of Fine Arts from 2004 to 2017. He has published numerous books and scholarly articles on the theory and history of photography and has curated major exhibitions, including at the Art and Exhibition Hall in Bonn, the Bauhaus Archive, and the Lichtenstein Art Museum.
His lecture will take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Old Town Hall, Room 23. If necessary, the event will be moved to a barrier-free accessible room.
