Similar to the Große Markt, gravel was spread. This ensures that the soil around the plane trees remains aerated and does not compact – an important contribution to the long-term health of the trees. At the same time, the gravel provides a non-slip and safe surface for pedestrians.
“We are pleased that we were able not only to make the station forecourt safer but also to implement environmentally friendly solutions,” said Mayor Marc Speicher, Deputy Mayor Carsten Quirin, and Alderman Gerald Purucker. Above all, the unnecessary issue of around 50 barricades forming the entrance to the city on the forecourt of the main station has been resolved. The redesign highlights the city of Saarlouis's commitment to making public spaces functional, safe, and sustainable. The modernized station forecourt is another step toward a more attractive cityscape.
