"The goal of the Water Framework Directive is to maintain or restore the good status of all water bodies," says Environment Minister Petra Berg. "We want to involve as many interested citizens as possible in the development of the waters near their homes and therefore warmly invite you to participate in the creation of the management plans. Because only together can we achieve a further improvement in the ecological status of the waters."
Currently, the Ministry for Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection is preparing a comprehensive fourth action program addressing all water users. The basis for the creation of the new management plan are feedback and comments submitted by the public, individuals, authorities, and associations over the next six months.
"With the currently ongoing 3rd management plan, which runs until 2027, we have already been able to achieve good results, but not all goals have been reached yet," says Berg.

Background:
In our densely populated Saarland, the protection of water bodies presents a special challenge. According to the requirements of the WFD, a good ecological and chemical status is to be achieved and ensured in surface waters, and a good quantitative and chemical status in groundwater. The action program serves this purpose. It is binding for all authorities. The implementing bodies, such as municipalities, businesses, farmers, and the Saar Disposal Association, are supported by the Ministry for Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection through funding programs and numerous cooperation offers.
