First, a devotional service took place in the church before everyone went together with Deacon Patrick Winter to the parish house for the Christmas meal. About 100 people gathered here, most of whom regularly make use of the Emmaus-Stube's offerings. Every Thursday, a three-course meal is served in the premises of the Catholic community for people in need.
Mayor Tautz, who brought Christmas pastries and fruit for all the guests, was on the one hand impressed, but on the other hand also thoughtful. “I think it is great that the parish of St. Eligius with its volunteer service team plans and carries out this event every year at Christmas. On the other hand, I have to honestly say that it also saddens me to see so many people here who rely on this support,” he summarized in his short speech. Therefore, he especially wished those present today good health, happiness, and a Merry Christmas.
Many people use the weekly offer of the Emmaus Stube not only to get a hot meal. Rather, friendships also develop among regular guests, where pleasant conversations take place. Thus, the Emmaus Stube is also a place of meeting and participation.
Background: The operation of the Emmaus-Stube relies on volunteers who take turns every Thursday. Without donations, the regular activity would not be financially feasible.
