Saarlouis is proud of this tradition, which originated as a genuine folk festival and has since inspired smaller-scale imitators in other communities of the Greater Region. The original is in Saarlouis, and with the proven methods used for around 20 years, we as a city, together with the innkeepers, restaurateurs, security and rescue personnel, and visitors, ensure the necessary safety of the traditional folk festival,” said Mayor Marc Speicher.
Speicher continues: "I have suggested that we, as the administrative leadership together with the local police authority, the city police, the head of the Saarlouis police station, as well as the emergency services, show a united front and presence. Therefore, we will conduct a joint patrol through the old town. But it is also about celebrating Christmas Eve as a Saarlouis tradition and institution together with the citizens and visitors."
The European city has also issued a general order. This regulates important protective measures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the event area, which includes Silberherzstraße, Bierstraße, Alte-Brauerei-Straße, as well as a section of Sonnenstraße.
Safety: Persons who are visibly heavily intoxicated, as well as those carrying glass bottles, glasses, or other fragile containers, are not allowed to enter the event area. This regulation is intended to minimize the risk of injury from broken glass and ensure a peaceful course of the event.
Reusable plastic instead of glass: Carrying such items is prohibited within the event area. Catering businesses serve drinks exclusively in safe containers such as reusable plastic.
Arrive early to ensure entry: It is advisable to be in the old town early. If it becomes too crowded later on, access may be temporarily restricted. The goal is to ensure the safety of guests in the old town and to keep emergency routes clear.
