Dominik Bollow's debut novel "The Whims of the Goat," published by Conte Verlag and supported by the Ludwig Harig Scholarship, is based on the perception and sensory world of this boy. The author, who traveled from Berlin, met an enthusiastic audience at the St. Ingbert City Library, attentively following the protagonist's exciting journey to adulthood. Bollow captivated his listeners with the presentation of skillfully selected text passages and his instructive comments on the narrative development.
In the discussion about the novel, moderated by ILF spokesman Jürgen Bost, the focus was mainly on the family connections of the depicted plot full of dramatic twists as well as the tension between documentation and fiction. The author spoke about his research work on his own family history and the settings in the Saar region and North Africa. He revealed that much corresponded to the facts, but the mysterious Moroccan “miner’s cow” that inspired the title was pure invention.
At the conclusion of the eleventh author meeting in the fading year, Jürgen Bost thanked his guest for the exciting insights into his creative process. His gratitude also extended to the team of the city library, without whose commitment cultural events like this would hardly be possible. One can already look forward to the upcoming events in the new year 2025.
