Saarlouiser Straße, a central traffic artery, has been designated as a bicycle street over a length of 400 meters. It passes by a daycare center, a busy medical practice, serves as a safe access route to the Klosterschule Fraulautern and the newly redesigned playground on the B51, and offers a secure connection. As part of asphalt resurfacing, markings and signs have now been installed. A poster campaign additionally informs about the new regulation.
The responsible city councilor, Gerald Purucker: "With the opening of the first bicycle street in Saarlouis, we are setting another important milestone for promoting cycling and improving the safety of all road users. It is also about making cycling more attractive in Saarlouis, which is why the administration informed local residents extensively at an early stage during a public information event. It became clear how important a safe cycling infrastructure is to the citizens and that it also contributes to traffic calming in residential areas."
According to the city's objectives, cycling traffic in the urban area is to be further strengthened and expanded. Plans for another bicycle street in the Fort-Rauch-Straße area are already in full swing. Implementation is expected by mid-2025.
