Marion Specht, head of the Erdenkinder daycare center, and educator Nadja Wild participated with daycare children in the Fair Trade action day at the Homburg marketplace. The equipment includes yoga pants made from fair-traded organic cotton and toys whose manufacturers commit to fair production conditions and transparency. A family breakfast featuring fair and regional products along with background information is regularly offered. The two daycare centers of the Diocese of Trier, St. Franziskus and St. Maria, have also made significant progress over the past ten years. Activities such as the Fair School Cone and the purchase of fair and regional products, as well as the Misereor solidarity bread and solidarity muffin campaigns, have become an integral part of everyday daycare life and are continually discussed with children and parents.
Ingrid von Osterhausen and Peter Weichardt from the Fairtrade Initiative Saarland honored the daycares at the Homburg Forum for their long-standing commitment to fair trade. At the same time, the Kirkel-Limbach community school was also recognized for its student projects on computer mice and mangoes as a Fair School Class. "We are proud of this award and very pleased about it. In this spirit, and true to the African proverb 'Many small people, in many small places, doing many small things, can change the face of the world,' we will stay committed," emphasized the directors Ursula Hornig for the St. Franziskus daycare and Silvia Zimmer for the St. Maria daycare. "The number of Fair Daycares in our district has risen to eight. Three of them come from my hometown of Bexbach. I warmly welcome further development. Global and intercultural learning at the preschool level promotes understanding of an open-minded society. It would be wonderful if this awareness could develop even more strongly," said District Administrator Dr. Theophil Gallo, combining his wish with thanks to all involved.
