“The federal government is making an important contribution to connecting underserved areas in Saarland to high-performance telecommunications networks. In Heusweiler alone, the gigabit expansion is being supported with over 2.6 million euros. Whether for businesses, private households, or public institutions – fast internet is the foundation for economic growth and social participation,” emphasizes Luksic.
Where private sector expansion is not profitable, the federal government specifically supports the expansion of gigabit networks. The funding rates range from 50 to 70 percent of the total costs, relieving the municipalities financially. This time, among others, Heusweiler, Neunkirchen, Homburg, Losheim am See, Ensdorf, and many other towns and municipalities benefit from the grants.
"The expansion of gigabit infrastructure ensures the competitiveness of our region in the digital age. This funding is a benefit for all citizens as well as the local economy. I thank the involved municipalities and project leaders who are actively driving the expansion forward," Luksic concluded.
