Interior Minister Reinhold Jost emphasizes: "Investments in our villages are investments in the future. By redesigning central areas and modernizing important meeting places, we not only create more attractive living spaces but also strengthen social cohesion and local identity. Our support for Beckingen shows that we keep an eye on the challenges of the municipalities and create solutions together."
The former Schommer furniture store in the Düppenweiler district, which has been empty and deteriorating for years, will be demolished. Instead, a new, inviting green and meeting area will be created there, which will not only enhance the appearance of the village but also provide space for socializing and relaxation. The Ministry of the Interior is supporting this demolition and the development of the open space with 117,567 euros. The planned green area will also be complemented by elements commemorating the local history (sculpture, information board about pottery and copper mining, mining cart), making the rich heritage of the village visible.
With €112,836, the Ministry of the Interior supports the urgently needed modernization of the club house in the Saarfels district. The measure includes, among other things, the energy-efficient renewal of windows and doors, insulation of the upper ceiling, as well as re-roofing of the roof area. In addition, the sanitary facilities, the floor covering in the event hall, and the locking system will be renewed.
"The community center in Saarfels is the heart of the village community. The renovation ensures that this important meeting place will continue to meet the diverse needs of the residents and enrich village life in the future," said Minister Jost.
“Village life is an integral part of the Saarland identity. Therefore, it is important to make places attractive and close to everyday life,” says Environment Minister Petra Berg. “In Düppenweiler and Saarfels, sustainable and modern feel-good places are being created that promote village communities and social participation.”
Together with the additional allocation from the Ministry of the Interior, the municipality thus receives total funding amounting to 407,902 euros.
With these measures, the two ministries are sending a clear signal in support of rural communities and their sustainable development.
