The event, attended by numerous employees and clients, began with a welcome and introduction to the topic by the organizers. Seda Altinbaş, head of the Villa Vivendi day center, moderated the event and addressed the issue of discrimination, defining the term and emphasizing the importance of actively confronting one's own prejudices. Holger Simon, who was significantly involved in the creation of the campaign, then explained the idea and motivation behind the project. The audience was especially pleased with the presence of the creative team from Formverliebt, who took over the visual design of the campaign. In their presentation, they showcased the designs, which effectively and appealingly convey the central messages of the campaign.
The anti-discrimination campaign of the Saarlouis Association for Social Psychiatry focuses on six key areas that are particularly common settings for discrimination. One emphasis is on the acceptance of diversity in love and sexual orientation. People should be respected and valued regardless of whom or how they love. The importance of cultural and religious diversity is also highlighted, emphasizing that origin and faith do not divide but can enrich.
Another aspect is the external appearance, which often leads to quick judgments. The campaign advocates that people should not be reduced to their looks, but rather their personality and individuality should come to the forefront. Gender equality and the appreciation of gender diversity also play a central role. The campaign calls for thinking beyond the binary gender order and recognizing all genders as equal.
A particularly sensitive topic is age discrimination. It is highlighted that people can make valuable contributions regardless of their age – whether through life experience or fresh ideas. Finally, the campaign is dedicated to reducing prejudice against mental illnesses. It makes clear that mental health is an essential part of life and no one should be stigmatized because of an illness.
Common Goal: Freedom from Discrimination
During the event, it became clear how important it is to actively combat discrimination in all its forms. "Discrimination often happens unnoticed or subtly, but it can have profound effects on those affected," emphasized Seda Altinbas in her speech. The campaign is intended not only to raise awareness but also to promote consciousness of one's own prejudices and encourage action.
“Our goal is to create a culture where diversity is not only tolerated but actively appreciated,” said one of the representatives of formverliebt. The campaign’s messages are intended to have an impact both within the organization and beyond.
A signal for the future
With the anti-discrimination campaign, the Association for Social Psychiatry Saarlouis sends a strong message for respect, acceptance, and solidarity. The event impressively demonstrated that change is possible when people are willing to confront their own prejudices and actively advocate for a discrimination-free society.
The campaign posters will be visible in the VFS facilities and are intended to inspire and raise awareness among employees, clients, and visitors alike. The association invites everyone to join this important cause and become part of the movement for greater diversity and acceptance.
