Reading aloud lays the foundation for a successful future and a compassionate coexistence. This is also reflected in this year's nationwide Reading Aloud Day motto - Reading Aloud Creates Future. "Reading aloud is the key to education and an important step to opening up opportunities for children’s futures," said Speicher. "Because reading aloud not only promotes social bonds and understanding of the world around us but is also the first step to reading – a central skill that influences life as a whole," Speicher continued.
After the reading, the children had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the story of the "Streithörnchen" together. At the end, the mayor presented each child with a copy of the Lesemaus special edition "Our Colorful Read-Aloud Stories" as a gift and emphasized how important it is to foster a love of reading from an early age: "Stories open doors to new worlds and strengthen children's imagination."
National Reading Day is an initiative of DIE ZEIT, Stiftung Lesen, and Deutsche Bahn Stiftung.
