On the past Sunday, November 17, 2024, the Day of National Mourning, a central memorial service for the millions of victims of war and tyranny took place in the consecration hall at the cemetery in Quierschied. Mayor Lutz Maurer, the local heads Stefan Ziegler (Quierschied), Marcus Jung (Fischbach-Camphausen), and Peter Saar (Göttelborn) had invited to the annual event. Municipal councillor Eva Bastian, the local chairwoman of the VdK Social Association in Quierschied, Giuseppina Klär, representatives of the miners' associations in the community, the German Red Cross, numerous members of the Quierschied Volunteer Fire Department as well as citizens from the three municipal districts had gathered at the cemetery. In their speeches, Stefan Ziegler and Giuseppina Klär reflected on past wars and crises, but also on the difficult current global situation and its enormous challenges. The ceremony, during which a wreath-laying also took place, was accompanied by a brass ensemble composed of members of the Quierschied Music Friends Association. Afterwards, at the Quierschied shooting house, three salutes were fired in honor of the dead by members of the Tell Shooting Club.
