Since 2009, the municipality has implemented numerous different measures for flood and heavy rain protection, which have already proven effective in recent events. As a result, the damage from the latest events was significantly less compared to 2009. Given the projected consequences of climate change, such events are unfortunately expected to increase in frequency over the coming decades and, due to their higher intensity, will lead to more frequent flooding. Therefore, the municipality of Quierschied, in close cooperation with its citizens and in collaboration with the Saarland Ministry of Environment, Climate Protection, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, the International Flood Partnership Care Center (HPI), and the commissioned engineering firm CAD Infrastructure from Göttelborn, will develop a flood and heavy rain preparedness plan. The foundation for this evolving collaboration is the official kickoff information event on November 28 (starting at 6 p.m.) at Q.lisse. During this event, the municipality will present general information and the framework conditions of the process.
Mayor Maurer: "Get involved, join in!"
In the further course, public site visits and workshops will take place in the three municipal districts, in which all interested citizens can actively participate and help advance the development of the concept together with the administration and designated experts. On-site, a detailed review and the development of solutions for special cases will also be possible. “It is a personal concern of mine to make this process as accessible and transparent as possible. We do not just want to inform or 'take along' the citizens but truly work together with them, drawing on their experiences and ideas, to create the best possible concept for the community,” emphasizes Mayor Lutz Maurer, urging: “Come to the kick-off event, let us explain the next steps, and get involved during the events on site—join in and participate! Our contact person at the municipal services, Ms. Borner-Weber, is also always happy to receive your suggestions beyond that.”
