Mayor Denise Klein commemorated the victims of war and terror in her speech and emphasized the value of democracy. She referred to the people of the former GDR, who initiated the fall of the Wall 35 years ago with the Peaceful Revolution: “Democracy and freedom are closely linked. If one falls, the other disappears. It was exactly 35 years ago that brave men and women took to the streets to demand their right to freedom. “We are the people,” they shouted through the streets. It was a call for unity, for freedom, for democracy. And so I want to use the Peaceful Revolution and the subsequent fall of the Wall to remind us how important our voice is.
Use this – for our democracy!
