The celebration, which begins with a lunch and concludes again with coffee and cake, will be open to all citizens with limited seating available: families, seniors, and people who are lonely and/or threatened by poverty are to be given a few carefree hours.
For the organization of this special event, Alexandra Christmann, the head of the volunteer exchange at the Saarpfalz district, relies on helping hands. Helpers are also welcome on December 23 and December 27 for setup and teardown (one to two hours).
“Christmas Eve under the Christmas tree with the whole family is no longer taken for granted in many places, although it is desirable. We do not want to leave alone those people who do not want to be alone on Christmas Eve or who can hardly afford a communal festive setting on their own. This requires the commitment of fellow human beings who actually take the time and participate and help shape this initiative. I am aware that most people are busy with their own plans and preparations and look forward to days of reflection. Perhaps one does not exclude the other, and so I am grateful for any support we can find. I also appreciate this initiative by the Volunteer Exchange of the Saarpfalz district, which has almost become a tradition,” said District Administrator Dr. Theophil Gallo, addressing all citizens.
Those who would like to help on December 23rd, 24th, or 27th can register with the volunteer exchange, either directly via https://eveeno.com/302742131, or by contacting Alexandra Christmann, phone (06841) 104-8405, or by email at alexandra.christmann@saarpfalz-kreis.de.
