The speaker, Dipl.-Ing. Christine Mörgen – energy consultant at the Verbraucherzentrale and president of the Saarland Chamber of Engineers – explained to the participants the essential decision-making fundamentals for changing heating systems and detailed various heating technologies. She addressed current legal requirements such as the Building Energy Act (GEG), which in the future mandates the use of at least 65% renewable energy in new heating systems once the municipal heat planning has been approved.
The focus of the lecture included optimizing existing heating systems, the use of heat pumps and biomass heaters, as well as hybrid solutions that combine fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. Furthermore, Mörgen provided information on funding opportunities available through KfW and BAFA, especially for households aiming to adopt modern heating technologies such as heat pumps or solar thermal systems.
Another important aspect was the consulting services that can be useful before installing new heating systems. The speaker strongly recommended conducting a room-by-room heating load calculation before making an investment in order to plan the most efficient system possible. She also emphasized the need to minimize CO₂ emissions and reduce the use of fossil fuels in terms of climate protection.
The event was a complete success and offered participants not only valuable information but also the opportunity to plan concrete steps for sustainable heating choices.
